Houston tops CNN Moneys Best Places to Live lists
Three Houston neighborhoods scored high on CNN Money's Best Places to Live rankings.
Houston Heights was named one of the best big-city neighborhoods in the country.
CNN Money said of the Heights, "Houston Heights offers something rare for this city: an urban, walkable area with a cohesive neighborhood vibe."
The Heights was among 10 urban areas named, ranked by overall city populations.
Indeed, in the midst of a city known for its lack of zoning, the Heights is characterized by grid-like numbered streets and lavish Victorian-style homes. But the Heights area constantly sees more development, with retail, dining and living options.
The list is based on NeighborhoodScout.com data, city visits and talks with locals, CNN Money said.
Two other Texas cities were named in the top 10 big-city neighborhoods — Alamo Heights in San Antonio and Lakewood in Dallas.
Houston neighborhoods starred on another CNN Money list, a list of top-earning towns.
West University Place, commonly referred to by Houstonians as West U, ranked No. 8, with a median family income of $226,311 and median home price of $737,500.
Bellaire came in as No. 13, with a median family income of $197,770 and a median home price of $620,000.
No other Texas cities were named on this list.
Houston has gotten lots of attention lately, topping a Forbes list for Best Cities for Future Job Growth. Houston ranked No. 3 with a projected annual job growth of 3.5 percent.
